Graham & Grace: A Greyhound’s Guide to Friendship
Settle in for part 3 of Graham's Adventures as he forms a strong bond with kennel mate Grace.

Hi friends, it’s me Graham and I am back with even more pupdates! So much has gone on since I last checked in with you. Grace and I have been getting to know each other a lot more, turns out we’re quite alike! Grace was born in England and only has one ear tattoo; she was shocked to see I had two in my ears. We both love custard creams and tend to go on the same walks together, so I’ve really enjoyed learning more about Grace.
A few weeks ago, I met this lovely young couple who were nice to me; the girl kept giving me tummy tickles while I laid on my back, she was great! The man was also just as much fun as he wanted to play in the paddocks with me. But, after being with them for a while, I went back in my kennel with Grace. I wondered for a couple of days when I was going to see them again, but when they came back it wasn’t for me.
Turns out, it wasn’t my time to find a home, but I was really happy for Sandy, a pretty fawn girl in kennel 6. Sandy got to find her forever home and live with the friendly couple. Since then, Grace and I have been chilling with each other and playing with the other greyhounds in the paddocks. The volunteers have learned that we should be fed separately, which I don’t mind as I do like to take my time eating and I worry Grace would snack on my food if I wasn’t looking!
Fast forward to last week, Linda Biscuits took me to meet a new family who were interested in adopting me. This family had more than two people, there was also another tall person who kept looking at a little box in his hand. The older lady kept saying “Get off your phone” but he didn’t listen. The lady was very nice and had long blonde hair. When I licked her face, I accidentally caught her hair, she found it really funny. I didn’t - it didn’t taste like custard creams!
We went for a nice walk and they kept stopping to take my picture on the small box. I, of course, posed every time – I’m a natural! Once we got back to the kennels, they mentioned meeting Larry too. I waited patiently in the paddock until Luke Sky-Barker took me back into the kennel with Grace. He gave me a cuddle and said, ‘Your time will come; I am sure of it’. I licked Luke Sky-Barker back and told Grace all about it. I was a bit sad because I’ve not been chosen again, but it wasn’t all bad as Larry has been here much longer than me, so I think he deserved to go home with the small box people. At least I get to stay with Grace and Linda Biscuits has been playing her favourite album Bark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. Grace loves it and always sings and ‘roos’ along loudly. It makes me smile, I could never sing out loud, I’m no Roger Waters!
Enough about me for a moment, Grace had an exciting day too. Two people came to visit her. It was a lovely day and we were already in the paddock splashing in the paddling pools. Linda Biscuits brought them in to see us. One of them was tall and bent over a little with a stick in his hand and wore a flat cap. The other man was very small and wore a fleece and smelt like butterscotch, they were friendly enough but the people wasn’t in the mood to play. They kept trying to get Grace’s attention and Linda Biscuits did her best to catch me... but we both had fun running around. Well let’s just say Linda Biscuits was not as fast as us two! In the end, Luke Sky- Barker came and put a slip lead on me to take me to our kennel. Sometime later Grace came back and said they were very sweet but didn’t have fun playing with her and kept telling her to ‘calm down’. We found out later they reserved one of the older dogs called Russ.
Since the day of meeting the small box family, Luke Sky-Barker has been using his camera to video me playing. Linda-Biscuits stood near me and talked all about me, I felt like a celebrity! I enjoyed it as I got lots of treats and cuddles.
Which brings you up to speed to today. Luke Sky-Barker said to me someone saw the video of me and Linda Biscuits on the ‘Facebook’, whatever that means, and they’re coming to see me. I was super excited to meet them, could it be third time lucky? Grace said to just be myself, they will love me.
I met them out in the paddock and I was a bit shocked at first, there was a tall man and lady, with two little people. The little people were really excited to meet me and were very loud and giggly. I was a bit worried at first as they were similar height to me, the boy was a bit taller and older but the little girl was same height as me. Linda Biscuits held my collar while they took turns to stroke me. I felt more at ease once I knew they were nice. The older lady who is called ‘Mum’ took my lead and all of us went for a wander around the walking tracks here. I enjoyed being with these people, they seemed nice.
After the walk, we went into the home room... mmm, exciting, that had never happened before? I immediately claimed the sofa as mine and spread across it, they may be new here, but this is my sofa. They kept stroking me and Linda Biscuits was chatting away to them, so much so I zoned out. Once I woke up from a mini-snooze the family were talking about a ‘home visit’ and to ‘reserve him’ while they waited. It was all new to me, but I was just glad the two little people were giving me attention, they seem cool. They all hugged me goodbye and I went back into the kennel.
As I write this, I am not too sure if I have got a home or not, I am quite confused. Grace says no one went with them so I need to keep my paws crossed. Anyways, I will keep you posted. Love and licks, Graham.
