Yorkshire Day (1st August) is the perfect excuse to grab your lead, pack some treats, and head out to explore the stunning countryside with your four-legged friend. With its rolling hills, wild moors and historic villages, Yorkshire is a dream destination for dog lovers. Whether you're a local or just visiting the county, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a walk in one of the UK’s most scenic regions. And of course, pack a flask of Yorkshire tea- it’s got to be done!

Malham Cove – Yorkshire Dales

Near Skipton, North Yorkshire

Malham Cove – Yorkshire Dales

Malham Cove is a dramatic limestone curving cliff that offers both breathtaking views and a great workout. Start your walk from Malham village and follow the well-marked footpath. Dogs will love the open space, and you’ll both be rewarded with panoramic views from the top. Make sure you always keep your dog on a lead due to heights and wild sheep! Plus, Harry Potter fans will love it here as a scene from The Deathly Hallows was filmed here.

Dog-friendly tip: Plenty of pubs in the village are dog friendly, so you can relax with a drink post-walk.

Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay

North Yorkshire Coast

Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay

For a coastal adventure, the stretch of the Cleveland Way between Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay is a must. This clifftop walk offers fresh sea air, dramatic views and a path that’s well-maintained and dog friendly. It’s around six miles each way, so be prepared to get your steps in. Make sure you pack fresh water and snacks for both you and your hound!

Dog-friendly tip: Robin Hood’s Bay has several dog-welcoming cafes and beaches to enjoy after your trek.

Ilkley Moor

Ilkley, West Yorkshire

Ilkley Moor

Famous for the Yorkshire anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at,” Ilkley Moor is a great open space for dogs to roam. With a variety of paths and heather-clad hills, this walk offers a peaceful escape with plenty of room for zoomies. Keep an eye out for sheep and bring a long lead if your dog loves to explore, as it’s always best to keep your dogs on a lead – especially in new places.

Dog-friendly tip: The nearby Cow and Calf pub is dog-friendly and has stunning views.
