Lexi's Happily Homed Hound Story
A story on how Lexi the greyhound found her forever home through a Christmas campaign on social media.

Lexi (Unique Arcturus) was five years old when she retired from racing. Lexi was born and bred in Sheffield and enjoyed growing up with her siblings. After a few races at Sheffield, she moved to another trainer at Nottingham with her sister and brother. She enjoyed living with her sister and playing with her brother out in the paddocks. Lexi won 42 out of her 107 races and was adored by her trainer and kennel staff. Lexi had lots of character and cheekiness, with quirks like having to bring the lure at the end of the race to her kennel and only eating her dinner if it was on a raised feeder – she was the ultimate diva!!
Once she got to the age of five her trainer and owner decided to retire her to allow her so she could find an amazing sofa to see out her retirement. Lexi went to the Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust kennels in search of her forever home.
Lexi was apprehensive at first to be leaving her familiar surroundings and trainer. Once she settled at LGT, she was enjoying meeting the volunteers and relished new experiences. Lexi went on meet and greets but no one was interested in her. She also went on the Great Global Greyhound Walk and tucked into a Mcdonalds with the other hounds, but still no one wanted to adopt her. Lexi sat patiently as many sets of families came to adopt their new greyhound. It got to November 2024 and Lexi was now the longest stayer at the kennels, constantly being overlooked! So the volunteers at the kennels decided to create a Santa Paws Campaign to help find her a home for Christmas. This photo was posted on social media which was viewed by 75,000 people and shared over 200 times! The post went viral across the world and the charity received 48 home enquires for Lexi.
One enquiry was from a family with two young children and a Saluki X Bedlington in Goole who came down to meet her at the kennels. Lexi got on really well with the children, respected their boundaries and loved Buster the crossbreed dog. It was a perfect match!! Lexi was reserved and a week later, the family took her home.
Lexi was home in time to enjoy her first Christmas with her new family and is making the most of her retirement! Her new family have kept in touch with her trainer and send pupdates most weeks!! What a fantastic happy adoption story for Lexi.
