Tokyo's Happily Homed Story

The gorgeous Tokyo (Grans Dream) came into the care of Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust Epping kennels in beginning of 2023. Tokyo was soon snatched up and was homed in a family home with a small child and a border collie. Tokyo lived with the family happily for over a year, but was unfortunately returned back to the kennels, due to having sleep startle. There wasn’t kennel space at the Epping branch, so she came back to the Boston kennels in South Lincolnshire. This was the first time she was meeting the volunteers at the kennels and was very unsettled. Tokyo found the return process quite distressing and tried to escape her harness, trying to get back to the family returning her. Once the staff managed to get her into the kennels, she was very frightened and wouldn’t move from her kennel for several days. The staff tried to walk and groom Tokyo, but she was missing home terribly. 

The team at the kennels spent hours upon hours building Tokyo’s trust until one day she plucked up the courage to jump up one of the team members for a cuddle. She soon learnt she could trust the people at the kennels and week after week came out of her shell. They learnt she was ultimately a big playful puppy who adored human interaction. Tokyo spent a very long time in kennels and became one of the long stayers at the charity. Constantly getting overlooked because she wasn’t very forthcoming to the door with new people she didn’t know.  

Until one day, a gentleman and his teenage son came to the kennels to choose their new companion. They soon fell for Tokyo’s gentle eyes and soulful personality. They spent time building trust with Tokyo until she felt comfortable to be around them and she loved them as much as they loved her. Soon after, the family took Tokyo home and she began her new life in Lincolnshire. Tokyo has been a diamond in the house and the family are besotted with her, she has become a real snuggle bug. Tokyo enjoys sharing her bed with the gentleman and playing with the teenage son. It’s amazing how it worked out for Tokyo in the end and she is thriving in her retirement!
