The Homing Story of Samson – HRH Romford Retired Greyhounds
We caught up with Home Run Hounds Romford and asked how Samson was getting on in his new home. Read Stuart an Heidi's story of greyhound adoption.

Back in April 2025, we partnered up with Katie and Andrew at HRH Romford Retired Greyhounds to showcase the lovely Samson looking for a home. Samson was in the kennels looking for a home, so we decided to post some spotlight posts. You may remember his sweet face!
Well, we’re super excited to announce Samson has found his forever home through the team at HRH Romford Retired Greyhounds. Stuart and Heidi contacted Home Run Hounds which led to the team reserving Samson for them. Samson was living in Essex and Stuart and Heidi lived in the Midlands near Home Run Hounds Broadmarsh kennels. A volunteer called Helen from Broadmarsh completed the home check on their behalf and, once given the green light, Katie and Andrew made plans to transport Samson up to the kennels at Broadmarsh.
We caught up with Stuart and Heidi and asked them how Samson was settling in!
We came across Samson whilst looking for our next greyhound as the time felt right (Our previous boy “Chas” had gone over the rainbow bridge nearly two years since). It began with Heidi being drawn to this huge hound (38 kg) due to his kind looking face. His description of being “The happiest of souls & likes nothing better than being in your company” was music to our ears. We then decided he was for us and we contacted HRH Romford Retired Greyhounds.
Arrangements were made for him to be brought closer to us as we live in West Bromwich and Katie & Andrew kindly agreed to have him transferred to Home Run Hounds’ Broadmarsh kennels in Hagley. On Saturday 3rd May 2025 (1 day after Samson’s 4th Birthday) we rocked up at Broadmarsh bursting with excitement. When he was trotted out to us, we weren’t disappointed; he’s one of those hounds that look you straight in the eyes when you greet them. Very endearing!
Formalities were completed, he got into the back of the car, and we headed home. After a couple of minutes of “Car surfing” he laid down and settled in, which was a relief to us. Once we arrived to Samsons new home, he jumped out the car and headed straight for the front door.
Introducing him to his new home went like a breeze; he didn’t have any accidents in the house and was able to manage to hold it until he was in the garden, which was really great to see. He found his new bed very comfortable and seemed more than happy with his memory foam mattress and duvet!
We offered Samson a range of toys, which he gratefully accepted. We’ve learned that he enjoys playing with his toys a lot. After much sniffing and exploration, he devoured his dinner and found his inside & outside water bowls easily. The first night came round quickly and with all the cooing over our new boy and comments about how well he was doing on his first day it was such fun. When we got him ready for bed he shot up into the garden and did his business unprompted then trotted back to his bed, what a star!
After that we gave him goodnight hugs and crept upstairs like cat burglars, bless him he didn’t try to follow us and gave us a trouble-free night! There was no whining, howling or pacing. When we came down in the morning we were met with a clean and dry room! We were so proud of him! He greeted us as enthusiastically as ever and we couldn’t have been more chuffed.
2 months later and we’re still delighted with this “Happy Chappie” who walks well on the lead, shows nothing but affection and interest to all he meets. He is absolutely great with other dogs and gets on so well with people. He lets us brush his teeth and we’re very jealous of his pearly white teeth. Samson is our fifth hound, and we can confirm we still love the breed and always will! Thank you for letting us share our story.
Stuart and Heidi.
