Home Run Hounds Eastern Counties Visit | Greyhound Adoption

Come along with us at our visit to Home Run Hounds Eastern Counties, where we met greyhounds in need of forever homes, filmed our foster campaign, and learned more about fostering and adopting retired greyhounds.

At the beginning of August, we had the pleasure of visiting Home Run Hounds Eastern Counties, a dedicated greyhound homing centre in Suffolk, to film for our foster campaign. Alongside filming, we were excited to meet the wonderful team, spend time with the greyhounds, and lend a helping hand at the kennels.

Even though the weather greeted us with blustery winds rather than sunshine (classic UK summer!), our day at the homing centre was filled with warmth, kindness and plenty of greyhound cuddles.

Meeting the Home Run Hounds Team

We were welcomed by Ingrid, Frances, and Becky, who are three passionate volunteers at the kennels. Straight away, it was clear how much love and knowledge they had for the dogs in their care.

One of the standout moments was meeting Eddie, a striking black and white greyhound with a heart-shaped patch on his side. We recognised him instantly from our Valentine’s campaign earlier this year, and we were heartbroken to learn that he is still searching for his forever home. Naturally, we made sure Eddie featured in our foster campaign video; he truly deserves the spotlight!

Filming the Greyhound Fostering Campaign

Our filming focused on the experiences of Frances and Ingrid, both of whom have owned and fostered greyhounds. Listening to their stories highlighted just how transformative fostering can be, for both the dogs and the people involved. They spoke about the joys of fostering, the bonds formed, and the many “foster fails” where families fell in love and adopted their greyhounds permanently.

The greyhounds themselves couldn’t have been more loving. Spending one-on-one time with them was easily the highlight of our day, although resisting the urge to take them all home was the real challenge!

Walks, Playtime and Greyhound Zoomies

We captured plenty of b-roll footage of the dogs out on their walks with the HRH team. Later, Becky joined us in the paddocks, where the greyhounds got to enjoy brand-new toys. Watching them race around, playing zoomies and soaking up attention was pure joy.

The kennels are located near the US Lakenheath Airbase, so planes regularly fly overhead. Surprisingly, the greyhounds were completely unfazed by the noise. Ingrid explained that once they settle in, the sounds actually help prepare them for fireworks on occasions like Bonfire Night and New Year’s Eve, a great step towards their new lives in family homes.

Why Greyhound Fostering Matters

Our day at Home Run Hounds Eastern Counties was not just about filming, it was about seeing firsthand the importance of fostering and adoption. Every greyhound we met was gentle, affectionate, and deserving of a loving home. Without the support of foster families and adopters, many of these retired greyhounds wouldn’t get to experience home life so quickly after retiring.

We are so grateful to Ingrid, Frances and Becky for their hospitality and for sharing their passion with us. We had a wonderful time, and we cannot wait to continue our partnership with you!
