Do you have the time to devote to a dog?
Do you work away from home for more than 5 hours and, if so, can you organise for someone to pop in to him/her while you are out?
Do you have very small children who could be overrun by an enthusiastic greyhound? – if yes, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of you having a greyhound, but you will have to ensure a homing centre matches you with a calmer dog.
Do you have other pets who might not get along with a new addition to the family? – many greyhounds can live with other dogs or smaller animals but those you already have may not be so happy about a newcomer.
Do you have the permission of the landlord to have a pet if you rent your property?
Although low maintenance compared to many breeds, looking after a greyhound isn’t cheap. You will need to be sure that you can afford food, insurance and any additional vet costs.
Do you go away a lot? Can you take your dog with you or do you have someone to look after him/her?
Although they don’t need very much exercise per day greyhounds can have quite a high prey drive. Can you provide the necessary exercise a greyhound needs either on lead or in a secure space?
